Arctic cruise operators celebrate World Cleanup Day

As the Arctic cruise season draws to a close, the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) marks World Cleanup Day by looking back on the results of this summer’s efforts to combat marine plastic pollution. 

Cruise industry cooperation highlighted in Arctic search and rescue event

This week, the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) published the report their most recent search and rescue (SAR) tabletop exercise. The report concludes that cruise ships can make valuable contribution to search and rescue in the Arctic. To achieve this, dialogue between the cruise industry and SAR responders is essential.

AECO statement on polar bear incident in Svalbard

Longyearbyen launches first community specific tourism guidelines

This month, Longyearbyen became the first Arctic town to launch its own community specific guidelines. The guidelines instruct tourists on how to be considerate visitors and were developed using a template created by the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) and partners.

Arctic cruise with less plastic and more beach cleanups

This summer, Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) is working with cruise operators in the field to identify how the expedition cruise industry can drastically reduce the use of disposable plastics on ships. AECO will also continue to engage thousands of cruise passengers in beach cleanups in the Arctic.

Ship to Shore donates to AECO’s Clean Seas efforts

AECO’s efforts to combat marine plastic pollution get another boost as AECO member Ship to Shore donates USD 3,321 from their 1% for the Planet fund towards Clean Seas education, reduction and cleanups.
