Norway has issued a national guideline on infection control measures for expedition cruises, developed by Standard Norge in collaboration with AECO.

AECO receives NOK 1.85 million in COVID-19 relief

AECO has been awarded NOK 1.85 million (USD 225,000 approx.) in COVID-19 relief from the Norwegian government. The funds come from “Svalbard package 2”, a government compensation scheme to support travel industry in Svalbard that has been negatively affected by travel restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic.

Report from Joint Arctic Search and Rescue Tabletop Exercise published

This week, the report from the most recent Joint Arctic Search and Rescue Tabletop Exercise was published. The report highlights how the skillset of expedition staff can be leveraged when establishing and evacuating passengers to a shore camp. The report also describes how vessels in distress, vessels of opportunity, search and rescue responders and home offices can work together to use available resources in the best possible way.

Norwegian-Russian cooperation aims to stop the spread of alien species to the Arctic

This year, a major campaign is being launched in northwest Russia aimed at preventing the spread of alien species to Russian parts of the Arctic. Scientists fear that seeds, insects and parasites will establish themselves in the vulnerable northern regions, and ask travelers to take action.
