Bjorny and the Red Dust: A Children’s Book

Bjorny and the Red Dust is a children’s book available in both English and Norwegian. Written by a former Longyearbyen resident who worked with environmental management, clean-up initiatives, and research coordination in Svalbard, the story follows a polar bear cub who discovers mysterious red dots in the polar night sky, builds friendships and hope, and helps clean up the shimmering Arctic. Told in beautiful rhyme and poetic Polar English, the book explores themes of friendship, hope, and caring for the natural environment.

Bjorny and the Red Dust has been widely enjoyed by readers in Svalbard and beyond, was selected as Book of the Month by the Norwegian Book Club for Children, and inspired a theatre production in Bergen that has been performed for several years. The book is currently available in its fourth edition.
