Selar Welcomed as New Provisional Member

AECO members voted to welcome Selar as a new Provisional member of the association during the first day of the 2026 Annual General Meeting.

The French company is currently developing the expedition vessel Captain Arctic and plans to operate in the Arctic the upcoming season. During the membership process, Selar presented its operational plans and long-term ambitions for expedition travel in the Arctic.

“Having spent much of my life navigating polar waters, I see Selar’s membership in AECO as a meaningful commitment to responsible operations in the Arctic. Our responsibility extends far beyond our own vessel, and we look forward to sharing the lessons we learn from operating an innovative sailing ship designed to make polar exploration more sustainable”, said Sophie Galvagnon, Selar’s CEO.

Provisional membership is the first step in AECO’s membership pathway, allowing new operators to take part in the association’s work while progressing towards full membership.

The AGM also welcomed five new Full members following the successful completion of their provisional membership period: 66 Expeditions, Polar Latitudes Expeditions, Sailing Expeditions, Aventure Maritime, and Mystic Cruises.

Representatives from Mystic Cruises, Polar Latitudes Expeditions, and 66 Expeditions were welcomed into the meeting room with applause after members voted to approve their transition to Full Membership.
