The Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators is one of the world’s largest cruise organizations representing members’ interests.

Our Story & Values

In 2003, the growth of tourism in Svalbard highlighted the need for a platform for the expedition cruise industry to address relevant issues.

Consequently, eight expedition cruise operators joined forces and established AECO in October of that year.

Since then, AECO has been committed to ensuring that Arctic expedition cruise tourism benefits the region while prioritizing the natural environment, cultural preservation, local communities, and safe operations.

How we Work

Members shape AECO’s work and priorities through committees, working groups, consultations, meetings, and projects.

The established guidelines, standards, and measures are mandatory for all AECO members.

Today, AECO is recognized as a responsible and reliable voice for the expedition cruise industry.
