Field Operations Committee
The AECO Field Operations Committee ensures safe and responsible off-vessel operations in the Arctic.
By focusing on operational guidelines, standards, and procedures, the committee promotes best practices and enhances the safety of AECO members and their staff.
The committee adapts to changing field conditions and national requirements, contributing to the continuous improvement of field operations practices and the overall integrity of Arctic tourism.

About the Committee
Mandate
- Provide advice and recommendations on tasks assigned by the Annual Meeting or the Executive Committee (EC).
- Collaborate closely with the EC in developing new proposals for operational guidelines.
- Concentrate efforts on off-vessel operations within the AECO region.
- Conduct reviews of existing AECO Operational Guidelines, identify necessary amendments to current field guidelines and advocate for developing new guidelines when needed.
- Offer advice and recommendations to the Secretariat regarding the potential impacts of guideline modifications on field operations for AECO members.
- Assess and develop common AECO standards and procedures for field operations by exploring and registering best practices in field operations, across the AECO membership.
- Address the training needs and equipment requirements of field staff to ensure they are adequately prepared for operations within the AECO operational area.
- Evaluate existing AECO field operations tools and identify the necessity for new tools.
Structure
- The committee will comprise of no less than five (5) and ideally no more than ten (10) individuals.
- The committee should include a majority of members with active field experience.
Focus Area
Tasks assigned to the Field Operations Committee:
- Develop a Code of Conduct
- Review and assess whether the current guidelines for the use of drones/UAVs (Operational Guidelines) need to be updated, clarified, or developed into a standalone guideline.
