Created for operators across Canada, this platform promotes stewardship practices to safeguard whales and other species at risk. Originally developed in response to a crisis affecting a whale population in Eastern Canada, the initiative now applies nationwide. It provides guidance on boating, fishing, whale-watching, and shipping in whale habitats, and encourages operators throughout Canada to report marine mammal sightings.
The project is funded by Fisheries and Oceans Canada and contributes to national population statistics, ensuring its legitimacy and importance. AECO is formally involved through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the project.
