Svalbard Environmental Regulations in English

New environmental regulations in Svalbard take effect on 1 January 2025.
These changes affect the Svalbard Environment Act and several related regulations, including those for nature reserves, national parks, motor traffic, and camping. A new regulation has also been introduced regarding the assessment of infringement fees under the Environment Act.
The changes apply to everyone—permanent residents, travellers, researchers, and those involved in tourism or fieldwork—though some are specific to certain groups.
The Governor of Svalbard has provided an English translation of the key changes, along with downloadable PDF’s for the different changes.
