FAQ

Are the Site Specific Guidelines for Svalbard public?

Yes, instead of downloading them from Dropbox, you now find the guidelines for permitted landingsites here.

Why can’t I practice the test before taking the exam?

The Online Assessment is an awareness tool to help you understand the applicable rules and where to find them. There is no time limit, and you can pause, search the reference material, and resume at any time. You can retake the test as many times as needed and review your answers afterward. The ‘Test Maker’ feature in SpeedExam is also available for practice.

When are the tests available?

The Assessments are available all year round. Registered field staff and mariners can access with their existing login credentials. New staff will gain access once the Secretariat receives confirmation from the operating member.

How often are questions updated?

Whenever regulations, AECO guidelines, or other relevant sources are revised or added.

Who is considered to be designated crew?

Designated crew includes the captain, staff captain, officers in charge of the navigational watch, environmental officer, chief engineer, lead hotel officer/manager, helicopter pilot, and submersible pilot.

I have a comment about a question – what should I do?

Contact the Secretariat for assistance. When referring to an issue with a question, use the QID# – a unique identifier for each question, which can be found in the question database.
