Are you looking for a meaningful career in an organization that combines international collaboration with strong local engagement?

Welcome to AECO

Join a team dedicated to shaping the future of Arctic expedition cruising.
At AECO, we work to ensure responsible, sustainable tourism in one of the world’s most fragile environments.

Who We Are

AECO is a leading international membership organization based in Tromsø, Norway. We promote responsible, environmentally friendly, and safe Arctic expedition cruise tourism. Since our founding in 2003 by eight expedition cruise operators, we’ve grown into a trusted voice in the industry committed to protecting the natural environment, supporting local communities, and ensuring safe operations.

Our Secretariat of 14 professionals manages long-term strategy, key initiatives, and daily tasks across maritime operations, policy, environmental protection, safety, community engagement, and communications. You’ll be part of a passionate team that includes experts in these fields, supported by a dedicated administrative team.

Our Mission

AECO is a trusted partner for communities, authorities, and operators in the Arctic. We set the highest standards for sustainable tourism and contribute actively to solutions for climate, safety, and local benefit.

Our Executive Director

Frigg Jørgensen is the Executive Director of AECO and has led the organization since 2006. Under her leadership, AECO has evolved from a small secretariat into an internationally recognized player in sustainable expedition cruising. She has been a key driver behind the expansion of AECO’s geographical scope, the development of guidelines and tools, and the establishment of the organization’s professional and political position.

Our Workplaces

While our head office is in Tromsø, we also have colleagues located in Longyearbyen, Nuuk, Odense, and Copenhagen. AECO offers a truly international work environment with a dynamic mix of ages, cultures, and professional backgrounds.

Our Tromsø office, located in the heart of the city, features modern facilities and a warm, collaborative atmosphere. Indoor shoes are encouraged, and our many plants have multiple guardians. Though our team is often busy, traveling, or in meetings, we cherish the moments when we’re together in the office, especially lunchtime, which is a chance to connect, share stories, and recharge.

How We Work

No two days are the same at AECO. One day you might be drafting a strategy, the next coordinating with expedition teams in the field. Our work spans a wide range of tasks, from policy development and stakeholder engagement, to field operations and strategic communications.

To stay connected across locations, we meet virtually as a full team once or twice a week. We start the week with a check-in and wrap it up with a check-out, creating space for alignment, updates, and connection.

Twice a year, the entire Secretariat gathers in Tromsø for five days of in-person collaboration. These sessions include strategy development, educational workshops, and team-building activities combined with good food, laughter, and inspiration.

Culture and Benefits

We offer flexible work arrangements, meaningful projects, and a supportive team culture. AECO values trust, transparency, and professional development. Our team is a dynamic mix of ages, cultures, and backgrounds. You’ll be encouraged to grow, contribute, and make a difference.

Our work is diverse, from policy development and stakeholder engagement to field coordination and strategic communications.
